Why should I boost my Facebook post?
There is a lot of confusion around the Facebook boost post option. What is it? How does it work? Is it an ad? Many businesses are boosting their posts to make up for the decline in organic reach, but few understand the technicalities of what makes a successful boosted post but first …
What is the facebook boost post option?
In short, you can decide to put some money behind one of your post from your page timeline and promote it in front of an audience of your choosing. While a Facebook boost post is technically considered an ad, your advertising options are very limited, unlike real Facebook ads created in the Ads manager. A boosted post can only appears in your targeted audience Facebook and Instagram newsfeed.
You may be wondering, if my options are limited, why should I boost my Facebook post?
Despite the limited ad features, using the Facebook boost post option can be very effective when you know …
When to use the Facebook post option?
There is a limited amount of ads that can appear in someone’s news feed therefore, the competition is fierce. Facebook news feed algorithm is meant to show each person the content that is the most relevant to them. Meaning, if you want to use the Facebook boost post option, you better make sure your post is RELEVANT.
A lot of businesses are boosting most of their posts if not all of their Facebook posts they publish… 😬
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are doing so, you are most likely throwing your money out the window. 💸 Yes, that’s right, if your post isn’t getting much attention in the first place, that’s probably because your audience isn’t THAT interested in it and you shouldn’t boost it either.
Don’t be sad… we have all been there, myself included.
Facebook judges the value of a post based on the engagement it produces such as, likes, shares and more importantly comments. So, before boosting your post, you should ask yourself whether or not your post engages your audience.
The good news is that you know that, you can now strategize your boosting accordingly. 😁
You should strongly consider boosting a post that has already proven to work. Let me show you a little case study that happens on a small page I manage.
The 2 Euro Boost post case study
We published a post with a series of photos that were taken at a conference we recently organised. Nothing fancy, just a good old post with pictures. The conference had just ended and everyone from attendees to speakers were eager to see and share the pictures.
Quickly, the post proved to be very popular for our audience. More than usual, therefore we decided to boost the post only a couple of hours after posting it. We set a budget of 2 Euro to give it a little more juice for the next few days and it just took off on its own.
The results 😮
Keep in mind the page is very small, as it had recently been created.
REACH:
The average organic reach for this page is about 1,000 per post.
IMPRESSION:
The average organic impression for this page is also about 1,000 per post.
REACH: FANS VS NON FANS
The average reach for non-fans is about 100 and for popular post, the reach for non-fans has been 800.
PAGE LIKE BEFORE BOOST: The page had a total of 240 Page Likes on Nov 15, 2018.
PAGE LIKE AFTER BOOST: After our boosted post promotion ended, we had a total of 655 Page Likes.
Boosting this post was one of the best investment we made for this page and definitely the cheapest. During the duration of this boost, we received an additional +415 Page Likes for a cost of less than 1 cent per like… It’s insane. I’m still shocked at this number. 😲
NEW PAGE LIKES:
655 – 240 = 415 NEW PAGE LIKES
COST PER PAGE LIKE:
2 Euro / 415 new page likes = 0.004 cents per page like
If you know when to boost your post, your return on investment can be quite rewarding.
The Facebook boost option is a great way to make the most out of your popular content. Content that has already proven popular with your fans can only mean more positive results: a bigger reach, more likes, more shares, more clicks, etc…
